The Churchill Falls Generating Station is one of the largest underground powerhouses in the world. The plant has 11 turbines with a rated capacity of 5,428 megawatts.
In 2009, more than 30 terawatt hours of electricity was produced, with the majority of that energy sold to Hydro-Québec through a long-term power purchase contract set to expire in 2041. Most of the remaining production is used for mining operations in Labrador West and Hydro's Labrador Interconnected System.
Churchill Falls ensures that the men and women who operate the Churchill Falls Generating Station, as well as their families, live in a comfortable community with the expected amenities of any town. The community of Churchill Falls has a population of 650 people. The company operates the town, including a school, grocery store, theatre, library and recreational facilities.
At Churchill Falls, our focus is to deliver high-quality, reliable power to customers and to ensure future generations benefit from this world-class provincial resource through long-term asset management.
